John Deere power for mobile medical units
John Deere engines are powering mobile medical units built by coach builder W.H. Bence Coachworks Ltd of Bristol. W.H. Bence was involved in the early stages of developing units for the UK’s National Breast Cancer Screening service and other surgical and medical units. Today, the company serves both the UK and export markets. Owner Hugh Owen comments, “Over the past year, we have built some 58 different medical vehicles. Two are endoscopy surgical units, each with on-board auxiliary power provided by a 83 kW (111hp) @1500rpm John Deere PowerTech 4045TF258 engine. They do not only power the medical systems, but also the air conditioning and hydraulics, which operate landing legs, slide-out pods and other features.” On the operational side, Mercury Health Ltd, of Coleshill, runs two surgical units built by W.H. Bence. “I have worked with mobile medical units for the past 15 years,” comments John Harris from the company. “These have all been powered by John Deere engines in applications where reliability is paramount, such as MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanners which have to be powered up to 24 hours a day. I have been constantly impressed with the reliability and back-up of the John Deere engines. We are now extending our pool of 10 MRI scanners and 1CT (Computer Tomography) scanner with units from W.H. Bence and certainly for the future, I will specify John Deere powered generators.
